WRRS Cardiff: Your Guide

The Women's Running Race Series is landing in Cardiff!

WRRS Cardiff

The Women’s Running Race Series returns to beautiful Bute Park in Cardiff for the opening event of 2017 – there are more of you running than ever, but you can still grab a place on the day (online entries have now closed). Here’s what in store…

The courses

The full 5K and 10K routes both begin from the north-east area of the park, near the Bute Park Education Centre (don’t worry – you’ll hear the event village before you see us!). Runners head south towards the River Taff, crossing into Sophia Gardens where spring blooms and Sunday walkers greet you for a short section up the Taff Trail. Ducking behind the SWALEC stadium, there’s a long straight up a tree-lined avenue before you cross Pontcanna Fields. Then it’s back over the river – don’t get distracted by the view! – and across Blackweir Fields, back towards the race village. At this point, 10K runners turn right to run another loop; the finish line and glory awaits with a left-hand turn for those on the 5K or their final 10K lap! The course is flat and offers plenty of tree cover – which will be handy if it’s a sweltering day as it was last year.

New this year, the Family One Mile race uses the final section of the route, with an out-and-back course to keep things simple.

The event village

Pre-race we’ll have interviews on stage with our race ambassador, Kerllen Maciel (Healthy Fit Mum), and you’ll hear from Louise Tuson, who has a very special reason to run. One of our pacers will be on hand to explain how our pacers work and then we’ll have a warm-up from Becky and Rob from Pure Gym Cardiff Gate. Women’s Running editor Liz Hufton will also be there to cheer you on and to answer any running-related questions you might have on the day!

The host city

The race village in Bute Park is a short walk from Cardiff city centre, a fantastic place to spend your Sunday afternoon with the Castle, plenty of places to grab a post-race meal and celebratory drink, and excellent shopping (if you’ve got the energy left to do so!). Need a steer on where to start? Try…

You can still race!

Online entries have now closed, with hundreds of you ready to race on Sunday. However, you can still grab a place with on-the-day entry – simply turn up from 9am and you’ll be able to enter at our helpdesk in the event village in Bute Park.
