Yesterday we completed 18 MILES!!!! Although we have all suffered 🙁 and am now slightly concerned about injuries as we are so close!!! Kat has a swollen IT band and I have pain in my Achilles 🙁 I feel a little pop when I push my knee forward 🙁 I can still stand on tiptoes so I’m confident it’s not torn! Anyone else suffered from this and can give some advice? This picture tells you everything you need to know about being a running Mummy. At the end of my last race, I sobbed and sobbed. My family were waiting for me at the finish line and as soon as I saw them I crumpled. It costs to be committed to training, to invest the time and I always find long runs the hardest. I leave notes on the kitchen table ‘I’ll be back soon, I’ll miss you, I love you’ My husband Chris and my 4 children are my biggest fans, cheerleaders and encouragers. They allow me freedom and time to explore not just the roads and fells but who I am. I am so grateful to them, so on Mother’s Day this is a very public THANK YOU! to my family. So today the plan was 20 miles and unfortunately I only got 16, I’m a little bit disappointed to say the least, I really struggled with this run, I had to call mitch to come pick me up because I wasn’t enjoying it and I was hurting. On the brighter side, it was a beautiful day (I now have sunburn to prove it) and I really enjoyed having Amber as company! Early start to get the session in before a day hanging out with the niece and nephew. Yay! 15 easy, 90mins MP, 15easy. A glorious morning around reading this morning. Promised myself that this week would be about getting my head down and getting on with it and I’ve done just that. Need to check but I think I ran a half marathon worth of miles faster than the last weekend. Testing gels again for the last time – seems like I can stomach any brand, which is good. “Running isn’t all sunshine and rainbows” 🌞🌈 . Every runner has bad days, weeks or even months. Some find running comes naturally to them, whilst others have to work at it. . I’m not in a good place after #bathhalf and I’m finding every run a struggle. I feel constantly fatigued and can’t seem to manage a consistent 5k. My left knee is painful and the size of a football, yet it’s my mind that’s interfering with running the most. #ehlersdanlossyndrome means I find everything twice as hard. My body works hard to balance and keep joints stable everyday – meaning I get fatigued more quickly. This has meant Bath Half has taken everything out of me and I’m going to have to take my time building myself back up again. It’s just a case of respecting my condition and understanding my running will improve again, as it has before. . 60 easy – this morning’s route was through Fryent Park, slingshot round @wembleystadium and home again for 7 miles before I head off on my day of epic train journeying 😱🚂 At least 5 1/2 hrs… that’ll be perfect prep for the long run tomorrow, right? On the upside, I had an awesome sports massage from @stobbs1991 yesterday. Properly worked those knotty calves. She comes to your house too. Ace! Time to golf-ball roll those toes while I work. 10 minutes Warm Up, 6 x 10 minutes with a 90 second recovery, Elongated Cool Down – Alternate between Threshold and marathon Pace (1,3,5 at Threshold, 2,4,6 at Marathon pace) . I was determined to give it some this morning. Hit ok paces (check my @stravarun if you are interested) but more importantly, enjoyed it more than I have for a bit. HR was high compared to normal though. Weird – feel fine and loads of sleep. Maybe because I tried a bit of an @torqfitness gel from @runnersneed at the start just to try it on my stomach? Anyone else found that gels make their HR go? I’ve even given up caffeine since pancake day! Anyway, work is crazy busy at the moment and another long train journey tomorrow. Treating myself to a sports massage later. Happy Wednesday, how are you? Cheeky little 5km speed interval run done. I was chatting to a #sportstherapy client & he said, I can’t get faster and I’m doing good miles. So I asked, do you ever do shorter intervals or threshold runs? Reply…. ooo no! I hate them, they are really tough and anyway, it’s only 5km and I want to run faster over a half marathon…. Trust me…. once you have a good base of run fitness, core strength and you are injury free… shorter, interval runs are challenging… yet they mix things up, increase motivation, wake up your muscles, and potentially get you running faster 🏅just respect them in terms of warm up, cool down, recovery & stretching. * #transformationtuesday * For my transformation Tuesday, I’m not going to reflect on physical changes or anything fitness related. My transformation is more centred around mindset and values. . Growing up, I never liked living in Wells. It was boring, small and there was “nothing to do”. In my twenties, I just wanted more and desired to live in London as I thought there would be more opportunities and a better lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong, I loved living in London, but every time I visited home, I came to appreciate how beautiful it is and missed it terribly when I left. . The decision to move back to Wells was the best my partner and I have ever made. I’m finally settled and happy. Recently, when running, I’ve come to really appreciate my surroundings and where I live. I’m running for enjoyment, now I’m not #bathhalf training, and I don’t think about pace or distance. I’ve transformed from someone who always wanted more to a girl who is happy with her lot and loves life. . Grins at the start of the race, or maybe just for the camera 😉 at the Windsor and Eton HM round Dorney lake. Great to see BBC runners and other familiar faces from the Regents Park loop racing there too. It was a bit lonely though as it’s only really runners who go to it – not that many cheerers. That’s ok if it’s trails but harder when it’s loops of a very flat course. It makes me grateful for those who do come and support. Hats 🎩 off to you. I had 25 minutes to spare till my train home from Manchester so I thought I’d do a mile or so. Then I got lost. Really lost. Then all of a sudden I had 7 minutes till the train left and over half a mile to get near Piccadilly Station.
