Thanks to everyone who took part in the Women’s Running 10K Race on the gorgeous, scenic Southampton Common. The temperature when the race kicked off at 11am was nudging 23 degrees, with bright sunshine – but much of the mostly flat course took place on shaded paths, with trees giving the runners some respite from the blazing sun. >click here for race results

You might wonder why anyone would want to get out and run in such hot weather, but our answer to that is simple: running makes you feel better in so many different ways. It’s great therapy, it clears your head and your conscience and leaves you inspired and satisfied with what you’ve achieved. And as one runner aptly put it: ‘Running beats revising!’

We had pacers at our event today, with pacing times ranging from sub-50 to sub-70, and a wide range of abilities. We’ve often been asked why we offer women-only races. The answer is simple. We prefer our events to be non-competitive, friendly and inclusive. Special thanks to the fitness team from David Lloyd Leisure in Southampton who not only led the warm-up but also pitched in to hand out bottles of water to runners during the race. Great team spirit. The atmosphere in Southampton was perfect. Anyone aiming for a PB could go for it, but many runners were doing their first 10K or making a comeback after illness or injury. Here’s what our runners had to say about Southampton…
