7 Full Body Strength Exercises For Runners

Improve your overall body strength to fast track a new PB!

Regular strength training exercises – twice a week or more – will help maintain good running technique, improve power, reduce risk of injury, and can even seriously improve your PB.

Try repeating each of the following exercises as many times as you can in a minute. Repeat the circuit twice.

Plank Jumps

Targets: Core, adductor, abductors

Tips: Always squeeze your mid section and glutes to keep core locked. Stay as light on your feet as possible for quicker more stabilized movements

Hips Thrusts

Targets: Glutes and core

Tips: Maintain feet flat on the floor with head back in a comfortable position. Control the movements as you sink the hips to floor and drive from the glutes as you raise the bar. Keep feet and knees aligned.

 

Battle Ropes

Targets: Arms and bum

Tips: Squat low for extra leg burn

Battle rope slams

Full Body Strength Exercises For Runners

Targets: Core/Arms / Back /Legs

Tips: Try and keep feet grounded at all times, on the slam bend from the tummy and use arms and legs to complete the slam

Battle rope burpees

Full Body Strength Exercises For Runners

Targets: Whole Body

Tips: Remain strong through the middle through out the movement. Add power on the up faze and control in the down

Step Ups

Full Body Strength Exercises For Runners

Targets: Quads / Hamstrings/ Glutes

Tips: Maintain weight and control in front leg

Lunges

Full Body Strength Exercises For Runners

Targets: Quads / Hamstrings/ Glutes

Tips: Take a step forward maintaining hip distance gap. Your not walking on a tight rope. Weight remains in front foot
