Don’t be protein shy with Pulsin

It’s time to reap the benefits of a protein–rich diet, so first, let’s bust some myths...

Don't be protein shy with Pulsin

Not sure what the deal is with protein? The experts at Pulsin are here to clear up a few myths…

I don’t need protein
Protein is essential for tissue growth and repair, whether you’re an experienced runner or just starting out, a lack of protein in your diet will hinder your body’s ability to recover. Each time you exercise, you break down your muscle tissues and these rebuild when you’ve finished your exercise, but this can only occur if you’ve had enough protein. Protein takes longer to break down and digest than carbs, so you’ll stay fuller longer and keep hunger at bay.Don't be protein shy with Pulsin

I’ll bulk up?
Fear not. Men’s lean muscle gains are largely about testosterone – you’ve got only a fraction of it compared to the chaps, so you’ll never bulk up in the same way. Up your protein intake and you’ll get strong, not bulky.

I already have enough protein in my diet
Unlikely! An average women weighing 63kgs (10st) will require between 70-90grams a day depending on her level of activity. Given that there’s only 25g of protein in an average chicken breast, or 15g of protein in 100g of quinoa, it can be tough to get 70grams+ into your diet each day. Luckily, it’s never been easier to up your protein intake. Whether it’s a protein smoothie made with flavoured powder, your favourite recipe made with unflavoured protein powder or simply a post-run protein bar, on-the-go protein is now simple, effective and accessible.
